Emote guide
How to See 7TV and BTTV Emotes on YouTube
YouTube live chat doesn't show 7TV, BTTV or FFZ emotes on its own. Turn on Chat emotes in the free Blerp browser extension and they show up as pictures.
What shows in YouTube chat
- 7TV, BTTV and FFZ global emotes, in every live chat.
- The channel's own 7TV and BTTV emotes, when the streamer set them up for YouTube.
- Blerp emotes, when the streamer has some in their chat on Blerp.
- YouTube's own emoji and member emoji stay as they are.

Your Twitch emotes in your YouTube chat
Many streamers set 7TV, BTTV and FFZ up on Twitch only, so their YouTube chat has none of them.
Link Twitch and YouTube on Blerp. Wherever your YouTube chat has no set of its own, your Twitch set shows for viewers with the Blerp extension.

YouTube's own emoji, and what this adds
YouTube's custom emoji are members-only: a channel starts with 4 slots at zero members and reaches 54 at 5,000, uploads are 48 to 480 px under 1 MB, and GIFs show as still images (YouTube Help, memberships levels and perks). Everyone else in chat gets YouTube's standard emoji.
7TV, BTTV and FFZ emotes have no slot limit and no membership. They show for viewers who installed an emote extension, which is the one thing to tell chat.
7TV emotes not showing on YouTube
- Chat emotes is off: press the Blerp button, open the menu and switch it on. It stays off until you turn it on.
- The stream was open before you switched it on: reload the tab.
- The streamer has no 7TV or BTTV set for their YouTube channel: both look up emotes by YouTube channel, and most streamers set them up on Twitch only. A streamer who links Twitch and YouTube on Blerp gets their Twitch set here.
- You're on the YouTube app or a phone: emote extensions are desktop browser extensions.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. The Blerp extension and its chat emotes are free, and they work without a Blerp account.
Can everyone in chat see the emotes?
Only viewers with an emote extension, like Blerp's or 7TV's. Everyone else sees the emote's name as plain text.
Does 7TV work on YouTube?
Yes, 7TV's own extension supports YouTube too, though its issue tracker has YouTube bug reports open since 2023. Blerp's extension is another way to see them.
Why don't I see the streamer's own emotes?
7TV and BTTV look up channel emotes by YouTube channel. A streamer who set theirs up on Twitch only has none on YouTube, unless they link Twitch and YouTube on Blerp.
Can I type emotes in YouTube chat?
Yes. Type the emote's name, or pick one in the Emotes tab of the Blerp panel.
Does it work on other sites?
Yes: Twitch, Kick, X, TikTok and Rumble chat too. BTTV pictures can't show on X and TikTok because of those sites' image rules. Kick emotes extension
