How to Set Up TTS on Twitch

Add text to speech to your Twitch stream with Blerp in four steps, with a picture of each screen. Want to hear the voices first? Try the Twitch TTS tester.

What is TTS on Twitch?

TTS (text to speech) reads a viewer's message out loud on your stream. Twitch doesn't have it built in, so you add it with a tool like Blerp that plays it through OBS.

With Blerp, viewers send it with a channel point reward (free in the standard voice), with Bits in the Blerp extension (works on the free plan), or on a cheer, sub or tip alert (Blerp Unlimited).

Add a channel point TTS reward

  1. 1

    Add a Text-to-Speech reward

Sign in to Blerp with Twitch, open Channel Points, press New Reward and pick Text-to-Speech.

Blerp's Add a reward window on Channel Points, with Text-to-Speech next to Sound and Video
  2. 2

Let it read the viewer's message

The reward reads what the viewer types, up to 500 characters. Free accounts use the standard voice, a system voice on the computer running OBS; Blerp Unlimited lets you pick a character voice. Name it, set its cost and save.

  3. 3

    Add Blerp to OBS

In Blerp's Browser Source settings, drag the Alert Box into OBS. It plays alerts, sounds and TTS.

Let viewers send TTS with Bits

Add the Blerp extension to your Twitch channel and turn on the Text-to-Speech library. Viewers pick a voice under your stream, type a message and spend Bits.

Set a character limit, and turn on the moderation queue to approve each message before it plays.

Keep TTS under control

  • Banned words are spoken as “blerp” in rewards, alerts and Bits TTS.
  • Add your own banned words. Blerp's list of slurs and explicit words is on unless you turn it off.
  • Give the reward a cooldown so messages don't stack up.
