X Live guide

How to Go Live on X from your phone or with OBS

X (formerly Twitter) has two ways to stream: the Live button in the X app, or Live Studio on a computer with OBS. Here are both, the settings X recommends and what to check when it won't go live.

Go live from your phone

X doesn't let accounts with protected posts go live.

  1. 1

    Open the camera

In the X app, start a new post and tap the camera icon.

  2. 2

    Pick Live

Tap Live at the bottom and add a description if you like.

  3. 3

    Tap Go live

Your stream posts to your profile and your followers' timelines. Tap Stop to end it.

Go live on X with OBS

Streaming from a computer uses Live Studio, X's tool for live video. X made it for Premium accounts. Open it at x.com/i/live-studio or from Creator Studio.

  1. 1

    Make a livestream

Click New Livestream, add a title and create a source in the region closest to you.

  2. 2

    Paste it into OBS

In OBS, open Settings, then Stream. Pick Custom and paste X's RTMP URL and Stream Key.

  3. 3

    Go live and post it

Press Start Streaming in OBS, then Go Live. Live Studio doesn't post it for you: press Post livestream on X.

Can't go live on X? Check these

  • Protected posts

Accounts with protected posts can't go live. Make your posts public first.

  • A Premium page opens

Live Studio is for X Premium accounts, so without it x.com/i/live-studio sends you to sign up.

  • Waiting for stream

X isn't getting video yet. Press Start Streaming in OBS and check the URL and key.

  • The media could not be played

Copy the RTMP URL and Stream Key again, and send H.264 video with AAC audio.

  • Livestream already running

A source carries one livestream at a time. End the other one or make a new source.

  • Timed out

The video stopped or never arrived. A timed-out livestream can't restart, so make a new one.

Add alerts to your X stream

Signing up is free. Alerts and the subathon timer are part of Blerp Unlimited.

  1. 1

    Connect X

In Blerp, open Integrations and press Connect on X.

  2. 2

Make a follow or sub alert

Pick X as the platform, or keep Any platform so one alert covers them all.

Blerp's New follow alert form with X picked, so the alert plays when someone follows on X
  3. 3

    Add Blerp to OBS

Add your Blerp browser source to OBS. Alerts play on your X stream like any other.

What else stream alerts can do

Subathons and goals on X

X subs, follows, reposts and quotes can add time to a Blerp subathon timer. Auto pause can follow your X stream, so the timer stops when you end it and starts again when you go live.

Follower and sub goals can count X too.
