How Twitch Raids Work how to raid, who can raid you, and how to welcome raiders

A raid sends your whole chat to another live channel when your stream ends. It's the fastest way to share an audience with another streamer, and any creator can do it, Affiliate, Partner or neither. Here's how to start one, control who can raid you, and make an incoming raid feel like an event.

What is a Twitch raid?

A raid sends everyone connected to your chat at that moment to the channel you pick. Their chat gets a message saying who raided and how many raiders came along, so the streamer can welcome them by name.

Raids work best at the end of your stream. If you raid while you're still live, your viewers move to the other channel, but anyone new who opens your page still sees your stream.

How to raid someone on Twitch

  • Type /raid and the channel name in your chat, like /raid TwitchPresents. This works from the mobile app too.
  • Not sure who to raid? Click the Raid Channel quick action in your Creator Dashboard, or type /raidbrowser, to see suggested live channels. You can filter by Same Category, Following, Raided You or Similar Size, and preview a stream first. The Raid Browser isn't in the mobile app.
  • A countdown appears at the top of chat while viewers join. Viewers can opt out. After 10 seconds, or when everyone's ready, click Raid Now; if you click nothing, the raid starts on its own when the countdown runs out.
  • Changed your mind? Click Cancel before it starts, or type /unraid.
  • You can't raid a channel that has blocked yours.

Control who can raid you

Only the channel owner can change raid settings. You can require raiders to have a viewer count inside a range you choose and an account at least a number of days old, and optionally allow only certain groups, like your teammates. Leave the minimum at 1, the maximum empty and account age at zero to accept every raid.

Mid-stream, the Stop Raids for 1 Hour quick action in Stream Manager blocks all incoming raids until the timer ends or you turn raids back on.

If a raid goes wrong

Open the chat settings cog and use the channel modes: emote-only, followers-only, subscribers-only (for Affiliates and Partners) or slow mode cut down spam from an incoming raid. You can also report or chat-ban the raiding channel. Afterwards, you and your mods can see recent raids under Tasks, Review Recent Raids in the chat settings, and in your Stream Manager's Activity Feed.

Twitch mod commands

Make an incoming raid feel big

  • A raid alert

Play a sound, a TTS message or a video the moment a raid lands. Raid alerts are part of Blerp Unlimited.

  • A raid sound

Pick something raiders will remember: an air horn, a crowd cheer, a meme. Browse the sounds streamers put on their own raid alerts.

  • A raid goal

Put a goal on screen that counts incoming Twitch raids and fills up on its own. Goals like this are free on Blerp.

  • Time on your subathon

A Blerp subathon timer can add time for each viewer in a raid, so a big raid buys a big extension. The timer is part of Blerp Unlimited.

Set up a Twitch raid alert

Good raid manners

  • Tell your chat who you're raiding and why before you start, so they arrive ready to say hi.
  • Raid someone in your category or around your size; Twitch's Similar Size and Same Category filters are made for this.
  • When you get raided, thank the raider by name and give their community a moment before you jump back into your game.

Set up a raid alert

  1. 1

    Link Twitch

Open Integrations on Blerp and link your Twitch account.

  2. 2

    Make the alert

Open Alerts, choose the raid alert and pick a sound, TTS or a video.

  3. 3

    Add the browser source

Add Blerp's browser source to OBS and send a test raid alert.
