How to Split Audio in Streamlabs OBS
Hey there, streamers! Want to level up your audio game? Streamlabs OBS has a fantastic new feature that allows you to hear more than just what's going out to your stream. Imagine being able to listen to your mods on Discord without them being heard by your viewers. Cool, right? In the past, you had to mess with virtual audio cables from third-party programs, but now, with the OBS 28 Merge, Streamlabs Desktop brings you the Application Audio Capture, making it super easy to split your audio. Let's dive into the details of how to use it.
Step 1: Open Streamlabs Desktop and Add Application Audio Capture. Fire up your Streamlabs Desktop software and add the Application Audio Capture as a new source. In case you don't see this option, try updating Streamlabs Desktop to the latest version.
Step 2: Enter Advanced Audio Settings. Double-click on the Application Audio Capture in your source list to access the Advanced Audio Settings.
Step 3: Choose the Window to Capture. From the Application Audio Capture dropdown, select the window you want to capture for your stream. For most of you, this will be your game. Remember to disable your Desktop Audio Source in Settings > Audio to prevent your stream from hearing all computer audio.
That's it! Streamlabs Desktop will now capture the audio from your chosen window, and your stream will only hear your voice, the selected window, and any programmed alert sounds (like followers, subs, donations, etc.), as long as you've added your microphone as a source.
No More Virtual Audio Cables: Enjoy the Simplicity of Application Audio Capture!
Troubleshooting Tips:
How to control what audio is streamed vs. recorded?
Use the Selective Recording feature. Turn it on, and then you can toggle each source to be streamed, recorded, or both.
Dealing with Echoes?
If you're using Application Audio Capture and experiencing echoes, make sure to disable your Desktop Audio Source in Settings > Audio.
Ensuring viewers can hear your alerts?
Simple! Change your alerts and any other audio you want your viewers to hear (in addition to what's captured with Application Audio Capture) from "Monitor (Mute Output)" to "Monitor and Output." Head to Advanced Audio Settings to do this.
